Exhibition: Audrey Hepburn Portraits of an Icon

On view now through October 18, 2015: the National Portrait Gallery in London's exhibition Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of An Icon. A selection of more than seventy images including two by Sam Shaw, one of which is shown here for the first time alongside other leading twentieth-century photographers, such as Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton, Terry O’Neill, Norman Parkinson and Irving Penn. The exhibition also includes an array of vintage magazine covers, film stills, and extraordinary archival material.

The Guardian favorably reviewed one of Sam Shaw's photos that appears for the first time in the current National Portrait Gallery's Audrey Hepburn exhibition, saying "She is sitting at a bar wearing a coat, surrounded by laughing, drinking men. She stares straight at us, with the loneliness of someone in an Edward Hopper painting. There is more poignancy and depth in this single photo than in the entire movie..."

Sam Shaw's portrait of writer Romain Gary appears on the cover of the latest South Korean publication of Gary's Les Mangeurs d'Etoiles (The Star Eaters). This is the fifth cover portrait by Sam Shaw from the series by South Korean publisher Maumsanchaek.

An exhibition featuring Sam Shaw photos in Romare Bearden’s collage works will be displayed—some for the first time--at the Columbia University Global Center Europe in Paris. Opening January 19th, this is the first destination of the exhibition tour "Romare Bearden - A Black Odyssey". Also on view are reproductions of Henri Matisse’s Odysseus series, and Matisse’s landmark book Jazz.

In just two days it reached 3.4 million people, was "liked" by nearly 70,000 and was shared over 11,000 times.

A Great Artist Was Born...

103 years ago today and his name is Romare Bearden. If you don't know his work, you should. Sam Shaw took this photograph of Bearden and one of his most famous collages, "The Block", which now lives at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.
